PROJECT DESIGN BRIEF:
This extensive alteration and extension of a heritage-listed Queenslander in Ascot combines traditional colonial charm with modern enhancements. The project involved a significant build-under and extension, preserving the home’s rich character while seamlessly incorporating contemporary features. The design honours the home’s heritage with meticulous timber fretwork and Venetian render, carefully maintaining the original aesthetic. A refurbished tennis court adds to the home’s outdoor appeal, enhancing its status as an elegant, functional family residence.
CHALLENGES & ACHIEVEMENTS:
Working within the constraints of a heritage-listed property posed unique challenges, particularly with preserving the historical features while modernising the home. Thorough planning and a deep understanding of the limitations allowed for a thoughtful approach that upheld the home’s original character.
Excavation and building under the existing Queenslander required precision. The structure was carefully held in place and restructured, and the area underneath was then excavated. This complex process was successfully managed through strong collaboration between engineers, subcontractors, and structural trades, with exceptional project management and organisation.
Another challenge was maintaining peace and minimising disruptions in the affluent neighbourhood during construction, an effort that was carefully managed to respect the surrounding community. The result is a beautifully restored Queenslander that balances heritage preservation with modern luxury.
