PROJECT DESIGN BRIEF:

This split-level, two-storey contemporary family home in the heart of Ascot is designed to embrace sub-tropical living with a seamless connection to the outdoors. Built in a character precinct, the home respects its surroundings while subverting the traditional ‘timber and tin’ aesthetic through a modern interpretation. The design features a series of thoughtfully positioned courtyards, creating a direct visual and spatial connection to the landscape, inviting natural light deep into the home, especially the winter sun.

The home combines bold, modern architecture with expansive family living and entertaining spaces. French oak and New Guinea Rosewood accents give a contemporary twist to classic materials, blending harmoniously with skylights, glass sliders, louvres, and a striking 6.1m void to emphasise the connection between the interior and exterior.

CHALLENGES & ACHIEVEMENTS:

This project demanded exceptional craftsmanship, particularly in the extensive use of timber, including intricate French oak linings and timber veneer joinery. Achieving a flawless finish for the stonework and the material detailing throughout the house required meticulous attention to detail, while the scale of the timberwork posed its own challenges in terms of both design and execution.
