PROJECT DESIGN BRIEF:
This exceptional modern residence, designed in collaboration with Tim Stewart Architects, is located in The Gap, approximately 10 km from Brisbane’s CBD. The project brief emphasised creating expansive, connected living spaces, complemented by private retreats for family members. The home’s exterior is wrapped in white mahogany shiplap timber and treated with a range of coloured stains to create a warm yet modern aesthetic.
Internally, a blend of polished concrete and oak timber tones serves as the foundation for the neutral finishes, adding texture and depth to the home’s design. Key features include oak wall and ceiling linings, large open spans, and floor-to-ceiling timber glazed windows and doors, allowing natural light to flood the living areas seamlessly and connecting the indoors to the surrounding landscape.
CHALLENGES & ACHIEVEMENTS:
The site presented a number of challenges, particularly the large sloping terrain, which required complex retaining solutions to ensure structural stability. The scale of the house, spanning over 1,000 sqm, demanded precise engineering for its expansive open spaces and large glazing units while ensuring both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
The meticulous detailing of materials was a focal point throughout the project. From the timber linings to the polished concrete floors, each element was executed with precision, enhancing the overall warmth and sophistication of the home.
Despite the logistical challenges posed by the site and the project’s scale, the result is a thoughtfully designed, beautifully crafted residence that offers expansive shared spaces and intimate, private retreats. The seamless integration of materials and meticulous attention to detail underscores our commitment to delivering homes of exceptional quality.
