PROJECT DESIGN BRIEF:
Royston is a Hamptons-style residence located in Brookfield, a rural residential suburb approximately 14km from Brisbane’s CBD.
A large-scale alteration and addition of the existing house was completed with a focus on the meticulously detailed finishes. This project required new solid masonry components to shape a courtyard design, featuring a unique cantilevered swimming pool.
A selection of materials, including warm oaks, blonde natural stone and textured plaster, create sanctuary-like living areas which engage with the landscape.
CHALLENGES & ACHIEVEMENTS:
Logistical challenges, regarding the non-Brisbane metro site, were overcome by thorough organsation and management, and heavy investment from conception to completion. This 3.5-year project occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic when the industry experienced material and trade shortages, delays in lead times, and cost fluctuations.
The build was demanding by design, featuring large open spans and a minimally-supported cantilever in the form of a suspended swimming pool, while the footprint of the house covers an eight-metre sloping topography.
A superior level of craftsmanship was required to work with an array of materials including timber, concrete, venetian render, terrazzo, travertine, and brass trims and fixtures.
The customers are repeat clients, which is both a compliment and a privilege.
