9 ROYSTON STREET
PROJECT DESIGN BRIEF:
Located in the rural suburb of Brookfield, just 14km from Brisbane’s CBD, this project was a large-scale extension to an existing property, with the standout feature being a rooftop sports court. The brief called for a residence with minimal solid walls, designed to maximise open spaces and connect seamlessly to the surrounding landscape.
Key design elements include a striking cantilevered boardform concrete structure, full-height glazing to enhance the panoramic views, and stone cladding throughout. The outdoor living space was carefully crafted with a fire pit and integrated landscaping to create a harmonious indoor-outdoor flow.
CHALLENGES & ACHIEVEMENTS:
Building on this property presented several logistical and engineering challenges, most notably the site’s 14m sloping topography. Extensive retention was required to manage the slope, and construction took place directly behind the existing house, adding further complexity.
A highlight of the project was the rooftop sports court, which demanded sophisticated engineering and precise craftsmanship to balance structural integrity with minimal vertical support. This was coupled with the intricate use of materials such as timber and concrete, resulting in highly detailed and meticulously finished floors, walls, and ceilings.
Like many projects during the COVID-19 pandemic, we faced material shortages, extended lead times, and fluctuating costs. However, through careful planning and proactive management, we were able to meet these challenges and deliver a home of exceptional quality, with both the craftsmanship and structural elements exceeding expectations.
This project underscores our commitment to innovation, quality, and client satisfaction.
